A vintage smoking pipe is more than just a piece of wood with two holes in it. It is a snapshot of a particular place and time in history. It is an embodied expression of artistry and craftsmanship. It is a physical connection to those that came before us.
It deserves respect.
My restoration work will never compromise quality for the sake of time or convenience.
The work is always tailored to suit your preferences. If you are looking for a feather-touch, historical preservation, a complete reset back to the day the pipe was born, or something in between, I can help. I have experience with smoking pipes that are better than a century old and I have worked with a variety of delicate, vintage materials including gold, silver, amber, horn, and bone.
All pipes for restoration will require at least the baseline service, which includes the following:
Thorough internal cleaning and sanitizing to remove all residue, foul tastes and odors
Complete external cleaning to remove surface buildup of grime
Tarnish removal for silver, brass, or other metals
Stem deoxidation to restore the original color
Basic bite mark reduction using passive methods only (no sanding, filing, etc.)
Basic dent reduction using passive methods only (no sanding, filing, etc.)
Minor refinishing, if desired, to soften “knock” damage on rim edges and blend the color
Standard polishing and fresh wax coat
The cost for this service is $50 per pipe. Please note that the baseline restoration service does not include repairs or further refinishing. However, these, as well as other service additions and enhancements, are available if needed or desired for an additional fee. So, please don’t hesitate to ask about these options.
